A group of Japanese scientists from National Cancer Institute has come to this conclusion, Lenta.ru informs with the reference to American Journal of Epidemiology.

Medical specialists by government order perused a large-scale scientific research in process of which almost 50,000 of males (age 40-69) were examined. All the participants for the moment of research were healthy. They had been observed for 11-14 years.

During the research time 404 participants had the prostate cancer. 271 participants applied for medical treatment on the initial stage, 114 participants had late stage of cancer, and 19 participants had no signs of cancer.

Research showed that among those who had 5 cup of green tea a day there were less cancer disease than among those who had one cup of tea or didn’t drink green tea at all.

Meanwhile intake of green take didn’t influence the cancer rate development as the scientist mentioned.

Researchers think that anti-cancer effect of green tea is due to catechines decreasing testosterone level, which is very important in cancer formation. Moreover catechines might be responsible for blocking of cancer cells growth.

Statistics show that inhabitant of Asian countries suffer less of prostate cancer than Western ones. Researches believe this difference may be the result of different level of green tea consumption: Eastern males drink more green tea.
